Diving into an Bizarre Steam Demo: Controlling a Turdy Character with the Goal to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and enthusiasts have encountered plenty of interesting indie games. Yet, one is particularly notable for its offbeat concept. Named Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game includes a hero that is actually a dung striving to travel to a commode. In case you're wondering, "Unko" means "poop."

How you interact is straightforward: you only need a jump control. Throughout one hundred fifty challenges, encounter tough enemies and unlock a store to acquire customizations for your poop character.

Plan your movements with caution, since one error forces restarting the level. Jump using air pockets to hurl the poop upward, traverse crumbling ledges, and touch triggers to unlock hidden paths. Gather currency and use them on challenging levels in which the action ramps up.

Visually, the game boasts vibrant stages and an amazing music score. The retro graphics with moving abstract forms may remind players of classic titles like Earthbound.

Even though tough to think of previous releases where you control a coiled turd, interactive entertainment frequently featured toilet humor. For example, in Death Stranding, players craft explosives from character excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use dung as soil enrichment. And of course, this theme shows up extensively in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Despite its silly idea, Unko Technica has already earned impressive awards, such as being named best at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. A playable preview is ready now on Steam, with the final release scheduled to arrive on computers on November 19.
